It’s impossible to get confused, because of its strange and characteristic shape: big head, gold yellow colour and a black spot on each side. Legend tells that those spots were made by the print of Saint Peter when he took it in hand, asked by Jesus, and found in its mouth a coin to pay the tribute to Cesar (Gospel of Saint Matthew). In dialect it is called pisci jàddu or gàddu probably because it looks like a cock for its majesty and shape. Exploitable fleshy parts are scarce (there are many cartilaginous bones) and consist in 4 fillets that, anyway, are very tasty. In cooking John Dory is generally used for fish soups.
