This fish has the shape like a sole but it is bigger and more rounded. There are many varieties, such as: "smooth" rhombus (called in dialect linguàta màsculu); "chiodato" (linguàta 'mpiriali, pàssira pitrùsa, rèmolo, rùmmulu pitrùsu, tappa, tappa 'mpiriali); "quattrocchi" (pànta di funnàli); sandy rhombus (prajézza, pèttini, tambùni).
All these varieties have very fine fleshes but are not much appreciated by the inhabitants of the island. They are generally used for cooking soups (in pieces or without skin), or dipped in flour and fried; more rarely they’re boiled and eaten with tomato.
