This valuable fish belongs to Sparidae families and includes many species, for example the common sea bream (it can be 1 metre long), also called in dialect “pàuru”, “pàulu”, “pravi”, “pràju”, but also “lèntici”, “rèntici”, “dintatu”. But also the large eye bream (which is 30-35 cm long) called “dintàtu”, “òcchiu béddu”, “vucca rossa” and so on. Dentice corazziere can be even 90 cm long and it is also called “pàuru masculinu” and “pàuru cu la cricchia”. The dialectal term “pàuru” comes from the Latin term “pagrus”. Don’t confuse it with “pagro-sea bream”, which belongs to this family but is another kind of fish.
